North American Onion Seed

The onion seed historically grown in China, India and Egypt has solids typical of fresh market type onions. This seed results in a dried product that exhibits some differences after re-hydration when compared to a high solids processing type onion that is typically found in the USA. For this reason, Sunray imports a special high solids line of white southport globe type onion from commercial seed companies in the USA. When this seed is cultivated in the dryer climate of western China (which is similar to western USA) the solids of this seed result in a higher than fresh market type onion and produce an onion that is a closer match to onion grown and dehydrated in the USA.

With six facilities and over 35 million pounds of capacity per season, our manufacturer, Sunray International Corporation is owned by of one of China’s largest and most successful dehydrated vegetable producers.

Their facilities and production processes meet the international requirements of Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP. In fact, no other company in China has more facilities independently audited by Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA-Safe).

Sunray’s products meet the FDA's health limit of sulfites and residues left by agricultural pesticides, herbicides and heavy metal residue.
